According to Paralegal Today’s 19th Annual Salary Survey published in it’s April/June issue, editor Sally Kane indicated that, while salaries are on the rise as much as they have previously been during the apex years, the job market is thawing and compensation is slowly recovering to reach previous levels.

The survey consisted of paralegal participants across the country and indicated that the average paralegal salary for paralegals employed at law firms was $50,730 in 2010, a 1.3% increase from 2009. Corporate salaries rose to $63,566 representing a 1.7% increase. The participant with the highest reported income made $152,500, and the lowest was $14,400.

The legal profession would not function nearly as efficiently were in not for the many legal professionals who fuel it, and this is especially true with paralegals. Paralegals function as indispensable team members for law firms, who conduct a wide range of tasks and services, such as, researching case law, to legal writing, to scheduling with courts and litigants.

Before the advent of e-commerce and the wide range of internet communications available today, the paralegal field was full of people who simply located an attorney or law firm who openly advertised for or recruited them for open positions.
